TECH TUESDAYS: TALKING WITH TECHIES
Your Web site's look and feel are critical factors in determining a users' overall experience. Is your design up to snuff? As the Web has evolved, the rules of the design game have changed. Some "forbidden" tools and techniques are okay to use, while other standard practices need to be reexamined. This session will explore how and why the rules have changed, and look at specific design tools, techniques, and practices with an eye towards revealing the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Who Should Participate? Any library staff interested in improving the overall user experience on their Web site are encouraged to attend. Some basic familiarity with HTML and CSS will be helpful.
The Key Benefits For Participants: An experienced designer and librarian will provide an informative and entertaining overview of ways Web design is evolving, providing new ideas to spark your own designs.
Key Topics to be Explored:
- How and why designing for the Web has evolved
- Critical evaluation of design tools and techniques such as CSS based design, the use of Flash, multimedia
- On-line sources for design information and design tools
