TECH TUESDAYS: TALKING WITH TECHIES
Web
sites are an integral part of a library’s identity. But more than this,
library sites need to incorporate a complex and expanding set of Web
services. During our redesign, the University of Saskatchewan Library
migrated to Drupal for both Web management and as a development
platform for Web services. This migration sparked conversations on the
role of the Web site within our library, and helped us move from a
complex Web site toward a rich resource set of content and services.
The presenters will discuss their experiences, challenges, and successes on using an Open Source CMS in a library setting.
Who Should Participate:
- Library staff at all levels who are planning or participating in Web site redesign
- Library staff and developers who are considering Web content management systems
- Individuals and libraries interested in pursuing open source solutions, including application development
Presentation will be appropriate for a range of audiences, but some exposure to Web design / editing would be helpful.
The Key Benefits For Participants:
- Explore content management model – particularly in Drupal environment
- Expand your thinking about your Web site
- Explore possibilities for development with Drupal / CMS
Key Topics to be Explored:
- Challenges and opportunities of Web design in a CMS environment
- Drupal as Web editing / management environment
- Development possibilities in Drupal
- Integration strategies
