Tech Tuesdays: Talking with Techies Series
In our fast changing Web 2.0 on-line world, how do we keep up with new technologies to use promote our libraries? One way is to talk to those in the know and that’s what this audio session is all about. Jane Dysart, Dysart & Jones Associates, interviews globe-traveling Stephen Abram about the cool new technology tools he has experienced, heard about, observed as well as interesting research about new technologies, specifically those that can be used to promote the library. Through exciting stories, Abram shares his knowledge of new technologies and examples of libraries using them, and provides lots of places to look for further resources.
Who Should Participate: This interactive interview is aimed at anyone in the library world (librarians, information professionals, vendors, library technicians, managers, library trustees, and more) who wants to hear about the latest new technologies that libraries either are or will be using in the future.
The Key Benefits For Participants: Learn from a well-traveled information industry futurist about the new technologies he has heard about or observed as well as lots of working applications in libraries and information services.

Method of Delivery:
This is a one-hour teleconference. There will be a 40-45 minute
presentation and 10-20 minutes for questions and discussion.
Pre-readings will be offered but are not essential.
Stephen Abram Stephen Abram, MLS, is President-Elect of SLA, Past President of the Canadian Library Association and Ontario Library Association and Vice President Innovation of Sirsi Corporation. He has been VP of Corporate Development for Micromedia ProQuest and Publisher Electronic Information for Thomson. He ran libraries for Coopers & Lybrand and Hay Group. Stephen has been involved in innovation and change management projects for libraries and library products for over 20 years. Stephen has been listed by Library Journal as one of the top 50 people influencing the future of libraries and librarianship and has a best-selling ALA book out called Out Front with Stephen Abram. He has been awarded SLA's John Cotton Dana Award as well as being a Fellow of the SLA. He was Canadian Special Librarian of the Year and Alumni of the Year for the Faculty of Information Studies at the University of Toronto, where he is an adjunct professor. He gives over 50 international keynote talks annually to library and information industry conferences. He writes a regular column for Information Outlook and Multimedia and Internet @ Schools as well as regular articles for Library Journal, OLA Access and CLA's Feliciter, among others.
